From Adele returning from hiatus and destroying sales records to Phil Collins announcing he was out of retirement, 2015 was packed with comebacks. There was a stellar Janet Jacksonalbum, and Missy Elliott resurfaced with one of the zaniest dance videos in ages. Sleater-Kinney reunited, as did Blur and Chic. Dr. Dre finally put out an album — after 16 years — and Madonna returned too (though maybe she should have waited until we missed her). For every high-profile return, there was one that didn't quite pan out. Here are eight comebacks we want to happen in 2016.

Rihanna

The wait for the pop diva's long gestating album, "Anti," has become frustrating enough to be laughable. Despite releasing a handful of new songs and teasing collaborators, the singer has remained impressively tight-lipped about specifics. The album's first single, "FourFiveSeconds," a barebones soft rocker featuring Paul McCartney and the album's reported executive producer Kanye West, came out in January. Her "Man in the Mirror"-esque stomper "American Oxygen" was a dud, but tunes like "James Joint" and the Florence and the Machine-sampling "Only If for a Night" ramped up the excitement again. She killed club dance floors with her swaggering "Bitch Better Have My Money," but the tune has run its course, and she's yet to offer a follow-up. A high-concept mobile experience through a massive electronics company has given the impression that a release is imminent. But is it?

Kanye West

Hip-hop's most outspoken, self-proclaimed genius spent much of 2015 giving us false hope that he was dropping a follow-up to 2013's "Yeezus." He supplied a few album titles, "So Help Me God" and then "Swish," and he delivered high-profile performances on "Saturday Night Live," theBillboard Music Awards and the Grammys in support of new music from the upcoming album. Over the summer, his Steve McQueen collaboration, "All Day/I Feel Like That" — a nine-minute music video that paired two of the tracks into one conceptual art project — ran at LACMA, and he substituted for Frank Ocean (see below) in the eleventh hour to save the otherwise drab FYF Fest. To be fair, he had a busy year overseeing fashion lines, announcing a bid for presidency, staging an epic theatrical run of his beloved "808s and Heartbreak" album and having his second child with Kim Kardashian. As the year came to a close, the rapper offered an update on his album in typical West fashion: "I'm asking everyone DON'T ASK ME FOR ANYTHING TILL AFTER I'M FINISHED WITH MY ALBUM." Deal.

Britney Spears

Musically, the last few years for Spears have been a struggle. Her last single, "Pretty Girls," was fun and catchy enough to fit in her canon of sugary pop gems, but the song was mostly seen as an unnecessary redux of Azalea's massive hit "Fancy." Spears' last album, 2013's "Britney Jean," was largely a phoned-in mess beyond the scorching "Work Bitch" and the Sia-penned "Perfume." But as Spears has continued to prove, she's one pop diva you can't count out. Her Las Vegas residency seems to have gotten her excited about music again, and with Spears reportedly logging hours in the studio at the tail end of 2015, we can only assume that next year, she'll be hitting back stronger than yesterday (see what we did there?).

As Rihanna continues to keep fans waiting for her highly-anticipated album Anti, she helps to ease the anxiousness with the steady release of her Samsung sponsored AntidiaRY videos.

Christmas Day, RihRih unlocked the sixth room of her AntidiaRY. In the video, the “FourFiveSecond” singer is wearing all black as she walks through a crowd. A stark light comes on inciting a bit of fear in everyone, yet Rihanna continues walking.

With her head held high. shoulders back and determination in her eyes, Rihanna makes her way to a stage where her image is then projected onto a screen in the dark room.

No word on how many rooms are left that need to be unlocked, or when Rihanna will actually release her album. So until then, all we can do is wait.

Rihanna Takes ANTIdiaRY To The Streets In NYC Scavenger Hunt

The anticipation just keeps on building as Rihanna continues to drop hints and inside looks to her upcoming album, ANTI. And in her latest stunt to keep fans on their toes, the Bad Gal revealed a behind-the-scenes look at five rooms on her ANTIdiaRY app that she previously released with Samsung. The five-room display took fans through a series of rooms dear to Riri, including her tattoo parlor and bathroom. And now, after fans got a virtual look at the “BBHMM” singer’s ANTIdiaRY world, Rihanna is hopping off the screen and recreating the experience in real life.According to the @IAmTheKeyHolder Instagram account, which has also revealed exclusive clips from her project, one of the rooms from the app exists in New York City. But finding the room isn’t going to come without doing some good detective work. The Instagram account will be dropping a series of bread crumbs, taking fans on a maze around the city and ultimately to the ANTIdiaRY room.

Rihanna Was Spotify’s Most Streamed Female Artist in 2015, Even Without Releasing an Album

It’s been an interesting 2015 for Rihanna. While she remains famous to a degree that is basically impossible to comprehend, and while her fashion empire continues to expand (now including sock lines and beauty agencies), she has continued to frustrate fans who are eager (“eager” is putting it mildly) for her eighth studio album. (Rihanna released her first seven albums over the course of eight years, the most recent being 2012’s Unapologetic.)

She released three singles this year—“FourFiveSeconds,” in January, “Bitch Better Have My Money,” in March, and “American Oxygen,” in April—yet none of the three were followed, as many hoped or assumed, with an album release. In October, amidst all kinds of rumors about Rihanna wresting control of her music and releasing it on her own, the title of the disc—Anti—was revealed, along with album art. But now we’ve reached December, and, despite a string of Samsung ads teasing the release, as well as the announcement of an Anti World Tour, we still, basically, have no idea when this album is coming!

But today we learned that not releasing an album . . . didn’t matter at all when it came to her popularity among listeners. Despite not yet putting out “#R8,” as it is referred to her by her fans, Rihanna still reigned supreme this year. Spotify has released its end-of-year data, and Rihanna was the most streamed female artist, worldwide, with over 1 billion streams and 57 million listeners (it should be noted thatTaylor Swift’s catalogue is not available on Spotify). Just imagine how many streams Rihanna will be in for next year, if there’s an album’s worth of new material from her (though, honestly, we would not be too surprised if the album didn’t come until 2027 at this point).

Drake was the most streamed male artist this year (1.8 billion streams, 46 million listeners), and Major Lazer’s“Lean On”—ubiquitous this summer—was the most streamed track, listened to over 540 million times in 2015.The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness was the most streamed album of the year, with 60 million listeners.

Rihanna, Travis Scott Split Rumors: 'Diamonds' Singer Ends Brief Romance To Focus On New Album 'Anti,' Report Says

Rihanna has ended her brief relationship with her boyfriend Travis Scott, according to reports. The two had heated up dating rumors after they were spotted together over the last few months.

A source told Urban Islandz that the “Diamonds” singer has decided to end her relationship with Scott so that she can focus on completing her eighth studio album, “Anti.” Rihanna is preparing to release her album in the next few weeks and has no time for romance, Urban Islandz reported.

“He wanted her every second of the day and even wanted her to travel with him for his show,” the source close to Rihanna reportedly said. “While all the need for her attention is flattering it eventually became too much for her to handle. He is just too needy so she broke things off with him.”

The source added that Scott became “too possessive” for Rihanna despite their relationship having “no strings.”

According to new reports, Rihanna pushed back the release date of "Anti" because she didn't want it to drop the same day as Adele's new album "25" on Nov. 20.

Rihanna and Scott sparked dating rumors just weeks after the former ended her relationship with Formula One racing champ Lewis Hamilton. Neither Rihanna nor Scott, whose real name is Jacques Webster, have confirmed their relationship.

In September, reports surfaced that despite dating Scott, Rihanna thinks Chris Brown is "the love of her life."

Rihanna Sends Victoria’s Secret Sweet Apology After Canceling Performance

Rihanna apologized to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show after leaving us all crushed by canceling her musical performance at the VS fashion show. Leaving a sweet note backstage, Rihanna said she’ll be back next year — when Jourdan Dunn could walk instead of Kendall Jenner?

Rihanna apparently felt guilty about canceling her performance at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show on November 3, and made up for it with a heartfelt note expressing her apologies. Will another note be recovered spelling out exactly what made her cancel? Like maybe her allegiance to Jourdan Dunn over Kendall Jenner! Click through to see Rihanna’s note!

“Wish I was there with you guys. Kill it tonight. See you all next time, Love, Rihanna,” read her lovely note, posted by Stephen Lee to Instagram on November 10. The note, found backstage, was attached to what looks like a bundle of hot pink balloons (definitely on theme). “A little backstage secret from #Rhianna @badgalriri we miss you 💋#vsfashionshow @victoriassecret,” Stephen captioned the pic.

The rumor mill started churning on November 3 when Jourdan, who has walked in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show for the past three years, tweeted and deleted some major shade at the lingerie conglomerate: “Feeling so much better not doing BS…sorry I mean VS now that Rihanna isn’t doing it also.” Note that this tweet happened just moments after Rihanna’s announcement. Either Jourdan was just glad that she wasn’t going to miss a free Rihanna concert, or there was something else going on. Did Rihanna drop out when she heard that Jourdan wouldn’t be attending?

You see, the same time it was revealed that Jourdan wouldn’t be in the show, Kendall Jenner was announced to bewalking for Victoria’s Secret for the first time. It’s possible that Jourdan got bumped for Kendall. It seemed like Rihanna’s departure could have been a show of solidarity. Though Rihanna has been on good terms with the Kardashian family, due to her friendship with Kanye West, her relationship with Kendall has been a little strained. Rihanna and Kendall had a bit of a sassy Twitter exchange in 2013 over the set list at Rihanna’s concert. Nothing major though!
